Vitamin D is required by the body to support various processes associated with the cardiovascular system in healthy individuals. However, meta-analyses of vitamin D supplementation studies have failed to show a clear positive influence of Vitamin D in maintaining optimum cardiovascular functioning in unhealthy individuals. Ongoing larger randomised trials will clarify whether monitoring and supplementation of vitamin D play roles in cardiovascular health in these individuals (1,2).
