Benefits of Vitamin C

Powerful antioxidant, supporting immune, bone and joint health

Vitamin C is a water-soluble vitamin and powerful antioxidant nutrient that plays a role in many vital pathways in the body. It is important in the formation of collagen for our bones, connective tissue and blood vessels. It also helps in the absorption of Iron. While found naturally-occurring in many fruits and vegetables, it is found in highest concentrations in citrus fruits, berries, yellow capsicum and guavas.

If you are not eating Vitamin C-rich foods or are smoking then you may have a higher requirement for this vitamin.

Research indicates that Vitamin C supplementation may support healthy antioxidant levels, support healthy immune function, healthy joint function, healthy cardiovascular function and healthy eye function.

Vitamin C has long been studied for its effect on the immune system. Evidence is mixed as to whether vitamin C helps support a healthy immune system, but most of it seems to trend towards the positive. Here, we reference some of the positive studies on vitamin C for the immune system.

Vitamin C is essential for healthy bone development, repair and maintenance. Studies have demonstrated a positive association between bone health and the intake of vitamin C. However, studies on the effects of vitamin C supplementation on supporting healthy bone formation during aging have yielded mix results, suggesting that other nutritional factors may involved.

There are strong studies showing that Vitamin C may assist in maintaining healthy uric acid levels in the body. It may therefore support healthy joint maintenance and function. Here we reference some of the main research supporting Vitamin C's role in joint health.

What quality means to us

1.We start with the science.

The first marker of quality is effectiveness. That’s why we follow an evidence-based approach to nutrition. Unless there is scientific research supporting a nutrient it won’t be included in our recommendations. Research is also clearly categorised as mixed, emerging, strong, very strong or traditionally used remedies.

2.We know our place.

Usually the best way to get the best nutrients is in food. Real food. So we will never advocate vitamins or minerals as a replacement to a balanced diet. Where they have a key role is when, for whatever reason, your daily diet is not delivering what you need.

3.We're transparent.

Nutrition can be very confusing, with many voices & opinions. A quality outcome is about being able to make informed decisions. That’s why you can drill down on each nutrient to find out exactly why it has been recommended, its form, its bio-availability, dose & detailed ingredients.

4.We are multi-source.

You’ll find that our range changes. If the research indicates that the best form of nutrient comes via a particular extraction process or from a new part of the world then that is where we will seek to source those nutrients. As new research or technology emerges we constantly refine which nutrients sit at the heart of each personalised recommendation.
